LOS ANGELES, CA - FEBRUARY 26, 2026 - Dental student Somkene Okuego works with patient Jimmy Stewart, 83, a Korean War veteran, who receives affordable dental work at the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC on the USC campus in Los Angeles on February 26, 2026. Stewart has been a patient of Okuego for the past two years. "Everybody may be in the poor house tomorrow," Stewart said about medical cuts from the current administration in Washington. Okuego is about to graduate from USC with a dentistry degree after first earning a gerontology degree. She wants to focus on geriatric dentistry because so many older adults have major dental health problems after years of avoiding care because they can't afford insurance.
