ð¡ âItâs thinking about privacy as a superpower. That privacy is a set of skills and a set of tools, and itâs a way to think about the legal and regulatory environment. If you are interested in innovation in a way thatâs responsible, and that is ethical, and itâs going to get the kind of trust from the customers, I think privacy is the best tool in the toolbox.â -- Jeewon Kim Serrato, Esq. Did you miss todayâs webinar with Jeewon Kim Serrato, Esq.? Hereâs one insight for those of you concerned that AI will replace lawyers: ð¡"AI agents and AI companies in general are either not as interested or are having a harder time replacing [privacy lawyers], because AI needs to be trained, right? But so much of what we do is really forward-looking." Stay tuned for more quotes and snippets over the next week.Â

Congratulations, James! Thank you for sharing your insightful advice. Many of GC University's expert contributors have also said being flexible, curious, and willing to take on challenges helped them land a fulfilling role. To anyone who would like to join the GC University community: Registration for Cohort 4 (April 2026) just opened today! https://lnkd.in/gFgNWbdd
I'll take this opportunity to brag that I have completed the General Counsel University program with UC Berkeley Law Executive Education. This is a great program, especially for experienced professionals wanting to become an AGC or GC (like me), but also those that are fresh into the GC role. Over the next several weeks I'll go through some highlights of the program. I will spoil a little and say that the best and most encouraging lesson is that anyone can become an AGC or GC. It doesn't matter if you have 10/15/20 years in a specialized field. It doesn't matter that most headhunters or HR won't look at you because you're "too specialized" or "not the perfect fit". Fine. Go elsewhere. There IS or WILL BE someone out there looking for you - someone with specialized skills (they'll take advantage of them immediately!) that is willing to also try new (at least to you) challenges. That's called being flexible, and business loves that. And thatâs when you'll grow. Be willing to take on a new challenge every day. Accept you don't know everything and learn from what you don't know. Be curious. Be willing to be both an expert and a mentee. Find a mentor that will allow you to stumble around (just a little - there's still a job to do). Trust in the judgment that you've already earned and build upon it - new judgement from new experiences. Be calm in the storm - the cool center. Step back and observe business leadership. Listen. Observe. Advise.
