When your hardware, internet connection, and software run smoothly, clients see you as reliable and worth every dollar. 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐢𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 → Downtime means missed deadlines and lost income. → Clear audio and video create stronger client rapport. → Fast, secure systems speed up delivery and protect sensitive data. 𝐄𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬 → Laptop/desktop: at least 8 GB RAM, SSD, Intel i5 / Ryzen 5 or better. → Noise-canceling USB headset for crisp calls. → Fiber or 5 G internet (minimum 50 Mbps) plus mobile-hotspot backup. → Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) to stay online during outages. → Dual monitors for efficient multitasking. → 1080p webcam for clear video meetings. → Password manager and updated antivirus for security. → Core software stack: project management (Trello, ClickUp), communication (Slack, Teams), and automation tools (Zapier, Make). 𝐎𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐁𝐫𝐨-𝐓𝐢𝐩𝐬: → Log a weekly internet speed test and keep screenshots as proof for clients. → Schedule quarterly tech check-ups to update software, clean hardware, and audit passwords. → Prioritize uptime gear (UPS, backup router) before cosmetic add-ons. → Learn keyboard shortcuts and set up macros to cut repetitive work. → Keep a small Plan B kit: portable Wi-Fi, spare mouse, extra headset pads. It's week 45 (of 52) of 2% Better 💪 , the series where I highlight an operational improvement my team is implementing that's not world-changing but gives us a meaningful small efficiency gain. This time, working from (almost) anywhere: a checklist. 📓 Summary: I love to travel, and love working from cafes near and far from home. I have refined my list of essentials to work productively from most environments... maybe this can help you, too! 🌀 Background: This week I'm at the Customer Education Management Association (CEdMA) conference, and I got to thinking how I've finally (after 7+ years of remote work) have my work from (almost) anywhere checklist on point. Here goes: ⦾ I use an old airline amenity kit to keep my computer/phone/headphone charger (3-in-1, baby!), a backup Fitbit charger, a universal power adapter, and a three-prong adapter (my grandparent's house only has two prongs 🫠). BTW, universal power adapters are great for old airplane outlets that are loose and won't keep in a US outlet when you're flying. ⦾ In a separate old airline amenity kit I keep gum, a backup pair of headphones, lotion, and hand sanitizer. ⦾ In my Chrome Industries front pocket, I keep pens and a notebook. ⦾ And, of course, I keep a pair of noise-canceling headphones and a fully-charged laptop in my bag's laptop pocket. ⦾ Not in my bag, but crucial to working from loud locations: I have Krisp installed on my device to block out background noise. It's a champ. 📈 Impact: I never want to be "that guy" who's working from a weird place and inconveniences his team or those around him. These items help me work productively and politely from most anywhere. What's in YOUR work from anywhere bag? I'd love to know.
