Wet and windy tonight towards the northwest. Drier elsewhere.
Wet and windy across Northern Ireland and much of Scotland overnight, which will spread into parts of Wales and western England later. Some clear spells developing elsewhere but with brisk winds it will be a mild night for most.
Rain across the west will spread slowly eastwards and weaken throughout the day. Either side there will be some good spells of sunshine, although showers will move into Northern Ireland.
Drier overall on Tuesday and Wednesday with high pressure in charge. A chance of rain returning on Thursday. Staying mild with winds easing.
Updated:
High pressure looks to hold the greatest influence for much of this period, especially towards the south or southeast of the UK. This means that many places will see plenty of dry weather with variable cloud amounts and some sunshine. The best of the sunny weather is most likely towards the south or southeast. Some overnight fog is possible given clear skies and light winds. However, frontal systems are still likely to affect the north and west of the UK at times, perhaps pushing further east on occasion, bringing some rain and strong winds, and perhaps some hill snow across high ground in the north. Temperatures will be near or above normal, although a few patchy overnight frosts are still likely.
Updated:
The slow moving pattern will probably continue through mid-March. Spells of rain are still possible across the west and northwest, with drier and brighter weather further east and southeast. Lower confidence by late-March, however the blocked and slow-moving weather pattern may very well persist. However the main uncertainty is whether this will lead to cyclonic and unsettled weather becoming slow moving and persistent across the UK; or continued anticyclonic pattern, which would mean more settled and perhaps colder patterns in the vicinity of the UK. In general, some rain still probable but distribution of any wetter areas is extremely low confidence. Temperatures overall near or above average, perhaps with a slightly increasing chance this may trend colder towards the end of the month.
